He was predeceased by: his parents, Graham Johnston and Kathleen Johnston; his brothers, Hugh and Graham; his sisters-in-law, Margaret and Irene; his parents-in-law, James and Elizabeth McNally; his brothers-in-law, John, Patrick and Frank; and also Kathleen.
He is survived by: his wife Ellen Johnston of Red Deer; his children, Donna (Ken), Paul (Monique), Martin (Carole), Tara (Sean) and Mark (Red Deer); his grandchildren, Connor (Elyse), Shea Declan (Katelyn), Brady, Kieran, Breanna, Caelen, Aislinn, Rachel, Brynn (Aidan) and Regan; his great grandchildren, Everly and Beau; his siblings, Peter (Anne), Desmond, Paul (Anne) and Mary; and his sisters-in-law, Bridie, Eilish and Rosaleen. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
