Patrick Page Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of a loving husband and father, Patrick Page, peacefully in his Red Deer home. The irony is not lost on us, that in our grieving, we struggle to find the words to express the deep sense of loss … for the English teacher, poet, lover of lyrics and song, spoken word, other languages, proper grammar, movies and dialogue, and literature from Shakespeare to Stephen King. He spoke words of love, support, encouragement and acceptance. He knew that words have an impact and can change lives. Patrick was known for his puns and word play, and had a quick wit and humor. He was a walking encyclopedia and was relied upon for his wisdom and the final answer or trusted knowledge in family debates. Daily newspapers, a good book and the crossword puzzle were always close at hand. Patrick was moved by sounds, of cherished times with family and friends, his Harley, a well struck golf ball, family pets, cheering for the Oilers and Edmonton football, live music, especially the "family band" The Frank, the waves on the Oregon Coast, songbirds in Palm Springs and the pubs of Dublin during a long awaited trip to connect with his Irish roots. And yet, he was a quiet man, loyal, reflective, proud, and a wonderful listener and sounding board. His influence will endure. He is already greatly missed by his wife Grace, and his children Tara (Ray), Sara (Denver), Johnny (Sarai) and his grandchildren, Kaitlin, Lily and Bowen. Patrick is survived by his siblings Michael (Teresa), Valerie (Jim), Clancey, Maureen (Alf), Kathy (Alan), and their families. Patrick was predeceased by his parents Leslie and Velma Page.
The birds they sang
At the break of day
Start again
I heard them say
Don't dwell on what has passed away
Or what is yet to be
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in

- Leonard Cohen

Andrea Doell-Vasquez wrote a sympathy message

“I have such pleasant memories and many that make me chuckle. Mr. Page took much effort in trying to convince my high school self to find a love for Shakespeare and I love him for it, though unsuccessful as it was. I am truly grateful for his passion and love of teaching and the role he played in my life as a student. It is with my deepest sympathies that I write this. May you be comforted through your time of grief.”
