He was predeceased by: his wife Mary; his parents, Bertha Smith and Oscar Smith; and his siblings, Marion, Lester and Orval.

He is survived by: his significant other Bernice Dazé; his sons, Donald Smith (Terri) and Randy Carlson (Janice); his stepchildren, Michael Slute (Rebecca), Lorri McColgan (James) and Susan Fisher (Ron); and his siblings, Oscar Smith, Leonard Smith, Dennis Smith, Lona Grose, Lorretta Kuklison and Bonita Pederson. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
