He was predeceased by: his parents, Gus Nygaard and Emma Nygaard; his son Allen Nygaard (Darlene); and his grandsons, Gavin Byers and Brad Huseby.

He is survived by: his sister Elsie Overgaard; his children, Marilyn (Tom Byers), John (Darcey Huseby), Brian (Dawn Huseby), Karen, Randy Shearer (Wyatt), Kevin Huseby (Cathy Reddy), Travis (Leanda Huseby), Connie Hainsworth, Donny Nygaard and Wanda Saarela; and his son-in-law Brent Hainsworth.
