He was predeceased by: his wife Helen Carlson; his son Dennis Carlson; his stepson Lyle Buckley; his siblings, Hazel Fitzpatrick, Dora Kinzell and Frank Buckley; and his parents, George Carlson and Emily Carlson.

He is survived by: his children, Don Carlson (Cindy) of Taber, Tim Carlson (Susan) of Taber, Bonnie Carlson of Taber and Casey Carlson (Donna) of Lethbridge; his stepson Dexter Buckley of Taber; his daughters, Jennifer, Heather and Twila Wiebe (John) of Creston; and his sister Mabel Ernst.
