He was predeceased by: his parents, Gustav Steinke and Martha Steinke; his wife Mabel Schafer; and his siblings, Clarence, Lawrence, Melvin, Ruth, Rubena, Esther and Bernice.
He is survived by: his children, Judy, Terry and Doyle; his children-in-law, Reg, Linda and Jody; his grandchildren, Cari Tetz (Chris), Dean Demitor (Saison), Devin Demitor (Tiffany), Tiffany Demitor, Janelle Sullivan (Brian), Chad Steinke (Zayda), Tayler Steinke and Rachel Steinke; his sister Leatha; and his sister-in-law Eileen.
Services will be held for Sam in the Wetaskiwin Seventh-day Adventist Church on Friday, October 30 at 11:30 a. m. Due to Covid guidelines, the service is by invitation only, but will be live streamed.
