He was predeceased by: his wife Katherine Ries; and his daughter Mary Ulbricht. He is survived by: his sons, Mike Ries (Darlene) and Ron Ries (Jean); his son-in-law Wayne Ulbricht; and his sister Rosemary Schneider. He is also survived by six grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren.
