He was loved and cherished by many people including : his significant other Ashley Ondrik; his stepdaughter Riley; his parents, Jim Potts and Mary-Ann Potts; his brother Jeff Potts (Megan); his nephew Mickey Potts; his grandparents, Chuck and Phyllis Stotz; his sister Mindy Potts; his niece Madison Potts; and his grandparents, Ernest and Joyce Potts.

“I'm sorry for your loss. I will always remember James as a wonderful teammate and friend. I fondly remember going on trips with him and Jeff to wrestling tournaments, eating the "breakfast of champions" (i.e., a two liter bottle of pop and a family sized bag of chips), and his willingness to stick up for and defend those he cared about. No words can adequately convey the impact he has had throughout his life and how how big a loss this is to you all. You all are in my prayers. Cheers, Ben Lowry”
