He was predeceased by: his parents, Ludwig Schmaltz and Katherine Schmaltz; his siblings, Peter, Frank, Louis, Jack and Rose Mullhal; and his son-in-law Blaine Middleton.
He is survived by: his children, Gwen Middleton of Medicine Hat, Kim Renwick (Glen) of Camrose, Brian Schmaltz (Michelle) of Leduc County and Steven Schmaltz (Wendy) of Kindersley; his grandchildren, Aaron (Shelly), Jamie (Larry), Craig (Brooke), Micheal (Jillian), Chelsey (Brad), Tyson (Erin), Tenielle (Nathan), Stephanie (Kyle), Amanda and Kadin (Brittany); his great grandchildren, Isabella, Jaden, Brooklyn, Loghan, Beckett, Deklan and Olivia; his siblings, Ann Barker, Eva Sutherland and Richard Schmaltz (Susan); his sister-in-law Emily Schmaltz; and his wife Loretta Deering.
