He was predeceased by: his parents, James and Marion; and his siblings, Margaret, Mairi Ann, Angus, Norman and Neil.

He is survived by: his wife Betty; his daughter Fiona; his son-in-law Aaron Galbraith (Hinton); his daughter Morag; his son-in-law Jim Garland (Edmonton); his son Ewen; his daughter-in-law Tanya Murray (Edson); his sister-in-law England (Norway); his great grandchildren, Siobhan, Kara and Maeve; and his grandchildren, Seumas, Lauren, Cohen of Ottawa, ON, Kieran (Singapore), Calum (Edson), Kyle, Sierra, Graham (Edson) and Catriona (Edson). He is also survived by nieces, nephews.

In recognition of his contributions to the community, the Town Council honoured him by giving "The Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre" his name.
