He was predeceased by: his parents, Jim Howden and Elda Howden of Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan.; his brothers, John and Ben; and his sister-in-law Janice.

He is survived by: his wife Alice Szakacs; his sons, Barrie (Denese), Alden (Sheila) and Richard (Darlene); his grandchildren, Alyssa, Joel (Brittany), James, Monique (Andre), Emily (Logan), Amy (Tanner), Annie (Logan), Levi (Alexandria) and Jenny (Bryn); his great grandchildren, Maddex, Madyn (Alyssa), Ava, Eli (Joel), Isabella, Peyton, Maverick (Monique), Colt, Coy, Cayd, Kiel (Emily), Keela, Knox, Elodie, Bodi (Amy), Amaya (Annie) and Lakelyn (Jenny); and his brothers, Roy (Ann), Bill (June), Dennis (Gail), Alex (Isabelle) and Norman (Minnie Lou).

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 12th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Highwood Memorial Centre (128 5th Ave SW, High River, AB T1V1M3). A graveside service was held on Friday, February 14th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Lakeview Cemetery. A reception was held on Friday, February 14th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the Fort Qu'Appelle - Royal Canadian Legion (197 Company Avenue, Fort Qu'Appelle, AB S0G 1S0).
