He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Scharfl and Elda Scharfl; his sister Laraine Combs; and his nieces and nephews, Tereasa "Terri" Scharfl and Russell Scharfl.
He is survived by: his wife Ruth Hopson; his stepchildren, Roberta Hopson Green (Jeremy), Daniel Hopson (Maria) and Mitchell Hopson (Alina); his grandchildren, Parker, Tristan, Nova Hopson-Green and Bethany Hopson; and his siblings, Ralph Scharfl, Rudy Scharfl (Marie), Wilfred "Whip" Scharfl, Alfred "Alfie" Scharfl (Margie), Vivian Deitz (Cliff), Louise Diprose (Tom), Lynda Heitrich, Carol Ross, Louis Scharfl, Keith Scharfl and Denise Hawranik. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
