He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Cardinal and Esther Cardinal; his brothers, Bobby Cardinal and Robin Cardinal; his grandparents, Frank, Bella Cardinal, Barner and Catherine Cardinal; and his sister-in-law Beverly Hunter.

He is survived by: his sons, Gabriel Chief, Storm Cardinal (Tia Crane) and Caleb Cardinal; his grandchildren, Ezra Steinhauer, Penelope Crane and Piyesiwak "Thunder" Crane; and his siblings, Miranda Cardinal, Martin Cardinal, Kevin Cardinal, Valerie Cardinal and Darlene Cardinal.

A wake was held on Friday, January 3rd 2025 at 11:00 AM and at 12:00 PM at the Goodfish Lake Cultural Centre. A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 4th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
