He was predeceased by: his wife Natella Nickel; his parents, Therese Nickel and Heilmann Nickel; and his brothers, Gerhard Nickel and Alfred Nickel.

He is survived by: his children, Gaby and Tom (Brenda); his grandsons, Patrick and Christopher; his brothers, Helmut (Diane) of Edmonton and Willi (Betty) of Edmonton; and his brothers-in-law, Rolf Hanson (Heidi) of Edmonton and Ernst Hanson (Ingrid) of Germany. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
