Robert Randall Dixon Obituary

Bob of Edmonton passed away suddenly on January 1, 2023, at the age of 70.

He was born and lived his entire life in Edmonton. While attending school, Bob was a journal carrier for 5 years, then a waiter at The Sheraton Hotel for 2 years. At age 20, he joined the labourers Union Local 92 and became a certified labourer in the refineries and pipelines. He remained with his union in good standing for 49 years until his passing. Bob loved his work and being outdoors with his coworkers and friends. He always had interesting stories of his work.

Bob was an Ace pool player, winning many tournaments. He loved his 1970's and 80's rock music and had a huge record and cd collection. He loved wildlife and was a staunch advocate for the ethical and humane treatment of animals as well as the preserving their homes. He had several pets throughout his life. Most were stray cats he adopted and loved. Bob loved gazing at the sunsets and sunrises. He enjoyed travel especially to sunny places like Jamaica, Mexico, and Hawaii to name a few. He had a big heart and a great sense of humour. He will be sadly missed but always remembered.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Francis Dixon, of Edmonton; brother-in-law, Chuck; and friend, Maria. He will be always remembered by his "special friend", Dora. He is survived by his sisters, Gayle and Leslie (Ron); adored nephews, Danny, Timothy (Shannelle); niece, Sydney; close friends, John, Barry, Bob, Nick, Andy; as well as numerous friends and coworkers.

Thank you to the staff at Balwin Villa Assisted Living, Unit 61 and Roger, for their exceptional support, care and the wonderful environment the created for Bob and all their residence. And thank you to the Local 92 Health and Welfare department for being so caring and helping with Bob's passing and affairs in a very efficient manner.

Cremation has taken place and Bob will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in spring of 2023.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edmonton Humane Society or to an animal rescue of your choice.

I'm Free, Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free, I'm following the path God laid for me.

I took. His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play.

Tasks left undone must stay that way, I found that peace at the close of the day.

If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy.

A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.

My life's been full, I savored much.

Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.

Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free.

I Have a Place in Heaven, Please don't sing sad songs for me, Forget your grief and fears, For I am in a perfect place, Away from pain and tears… I'm far away from hunger, And hurt and want and pride.

I have a place in heaven, With the Master at my side.

My life on earth was very good, As earthly lives can go, But Paradise is so much more, Than anyone can know… My heart is filled with happiness, And sweet rejoicing, too.

To walk with God is perfect peace, A joy forever new.

REMEMBER ME, Remember me, when, You see a dove fly, Remember me, when a, Rose glistens with drops of dew, Remember me, but never cry, For I am forever – always with you, Remember me, but do not grieve, T'was God's will for me to leave, Remember me, but not with sadness.
