He was predeceased by: his daughter Joanne Thys. He is survived by: his wife Ria; his children, Hennie Schenk (Case) and John Grimmon (Bonnie); and his son-in-law Harold Thys. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
