He is survived by: his wife Shirley; his children, John (Lynn), Doug (Janis), Cindy (Reg) and Amy (James); his sisters, Johanna and Ria (Brian); and his mother-in-law Rose. He is also survived by 6 nieces and nephews and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name may be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada and/or the Cross Cancer Institute.
