Sheila Brassard Obituary
With heavy hearts we share the loss of our beloved mother, Sheila, who passed away
on March 7, 2025 at the age of 94 years.
Born on January 20, 1931 in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, to Joe and Margaret Haire,
Sheila was the fourth child of six children. Sheila’s family settled in Thunder Bay,
Ontario where, in her high school years, she met the love of her life, Robert Roy
Brassard. They were married on August 07, 1950 and subsequently, had four children
of their own.
A devoted wife and mother, Sheila committed to teaching her family the highest
standards of life: respect for others, respect for one’s self and respect for the
environment around us. She taught us how to be, by her own selfless acts; how to give
of oneself as you would want others to give to you, and how to treat all people with the
outmost respect. Life lessons taught indirectly by her own actions.
Shelia was a loyal, supportive companion to Roy for 58 years prior to his passing in
2008. She was also predeceased by her middle son, Cal Brassard (2012), her parents,
two brothers, and one sister. She will be greatly missed by her son, Scott (Janice)
Brassard, her two daughters, Terryl (John) Makuk and Alison (Mark) Lefebvre. Also
mourning her loss are her grandchildren Jessica (Dan), Jonathan (Emma), James
(Jen), Graham (Rochelle), Brian, Kira and her great-grandchildren Emilia, Abigail and
Camryn. She is survived by her two younger sisters Ruth Hamilton and Carol-Anne
Haire.
As a family, we are indebted to the staff at Aspen Ridge Lodge for the committed,
devoted, tender care they offered our mother while she was in their care. There are no
words to describe the diligence, the benevolence, the graciousness and compassion
we witnessed from each and every staff member towards our mother and towards us
as family members. If there were an award to achieve, this staff would have achieved
the highest of all awards.
A Celebration of Sheila’s life will be held at Zion Evangelical Missionary Church in
Didsbury on March 14 at 2:00 pm. At Sheila’s request all are invited to wear cheerful
colours.
