She is survived by: her daughters, Renee Thibault (Leif Jorgensen) of Calgary and Nicole Pacholek (Rob) of Edmonton; and her siblings, Laura Etty (Keith) of Galahad, Lennard McFarland (Christine) of Pigeon Lake, Winston McFarland (Julie) of Okotoks, Gwen Luxen (Dirk) of Calgary, Julia Nielson (Tim) of Gadsby, Dwight McFarland (Flor) of Red Deer, Sylvia Friesen (Dan) of Red Deer and Carol Schatz (Lionel) of Edmonton.

If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Valerie's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
