“>>> But as a German in post-war London, with visible Nazi bomb damage and war-torn families still grieving everywhere, Trudy did not feel welcome. She immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in September, 1954. There, in the summer of '55, she met and married my father, Roy E. Hardy ESQ, a Signals Intelligence officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force, who immigrated in 1953 from England, where he was an overseas Military Intelligence agent for the Secret Intelligence Service, Mi6. >>>”

“>> Loved by all, and especially her five children, my Mother is the most courageous, wisest, good-natured, caring woman I've ever met, and I wish more people were like her. ♥️ Mum is in heaven now, laughing with her sisters and dancing with Dad! She is finally at peace... after a long, tumultuous life and treacherous battle to survive. My Mother will remain in my thoughts, as long as I shall live. Sending healing hugs and much love, from your daughter, Love Sylvia xoxo 🌹 Miss you, Mum!”

“>>Maintaining the house by herself, Mum never stopped cycling, hiking & cross-country skiing to stay fit. She balanced her life with family visits, crafting, volunteer work at seniors’ centers, lovingly tending her vegetable & flower gardens, she would drive through a blizzard to get to church… never missing a Sunday! Selfless & considerate, she had a hot meal ready in minutes for anyone who popped by, yet no medal to reflect Mum’s kindness, courage, wisdom & longevity: her fight to survive.>>>”

“>>>Trudy adjusted to the transient modest lifestyle of the RCAF; sewing beautiful dresses and curtains, cooking gourmet meals and award-worthy cakes, and bearing children at almost every posting across the country: RCAF Clinton, RCAF Portage la Prairie, RCAF Churchill, RCAF Namao, and RCAF Trenton, packing up and moving every few years before the family finally settled in Calgary and bought a house of our very own! A 51-year marriage before Mum discovers life as a widow, for 18 years. >>>”

“>>> Besides perfecting her English while cheerfully looking after two young lads in her care, ‘Trudy’ went cycling! She rode her bike on holiday, north from Edinburgh and 441km around Scotland, before suddenly deciding... to become a midwife! After two years’ training at the British Home for Mothers and Babies, in Woolwich, Trudy was a Certified Midwife, delivered 90 babies in the early '50s, riding her bicycle to each home delivery for the Memorial Hospital, in London. >>>”

Name Sylvia Swan wrote a sympathy message

“Waltraud survived the tragedies and atrocities of World War II in East Berlin. Her mother, aunt, and all her cousins were either shot in Berlin, or torpedoed in East Prussia, by the end of January,1945. Postwar, Mum was forced to clean bricks of bombed buildings all day for 3 years during Stalin's reign, but by the time she sold her shoes for a loaf of bread, during the Berlin Blockade… she had had enough! She risked her life for a third time, to finally (successfully) escape Germany. >>>”
