He was predeceased by: his parents, Abera Fanta and Aslaku; and his brother Genetu Abera. He is survived by: his spouse Yeshi Beyene Gizaw; his child Ersabel Molalet Abera; his grandchildren, Zion Benyam Tilahun and Yohannes Benyam Tilahun; his siblings, Shimelis, Almaz, Yeshi, Danny, Luel, Senait, Birhanemeskel, Yonas and Hilina; his nieces, Tinbete, Hamere and Biruktawit; and his nephew Natan.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 3rd 2024 at 9:00 AM and from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, September 3rd 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Mountain View Cemetery (1605 100 St SE, Calgary, AB T2P2G7).
He obtained a diploma in Social Work from Mount Royal College and worked at the Salvation Army/Booth Centre/Centre of Hope, Drop-in Centre, and Peter Coyle Place of Trinity Place Foundation from 1988 to 2015.
