He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel McLaughlin and Alexia McLaughlin; and his siblings, Bill, Lucille, Sheila, Rosella and Betty Ann.
He is survived by: his wife Mary (Schuck); his children, Michelle Merkowsky (Mervin), Patricia Paccagnan (Tony), Daniel McLaughlin (Lynne) and Mary Kate Wasch (John); and his grandchildren, John, Lucy, Clare, Benedict (Grace), Peter, Gemma, Andrew Merkowsky, Julia Greaves (Ben), Isaac Paccagnan, Cecilia, Maximilian, Veronica McLaughlin, Theresa, Patrick, Dominic and Kateri Wasch. He is also survived by one great-grandchild on the way, and many nieces and nephews.
