He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Smolkin and Pauline Smolkin; and his daughter-in-law Colleen. He is survived by: his wife Debby Smolkin of Calgary, AB; his children, Geoff Smolkin (Helen), Doran Smolkin (Julie) and Jill Smolkin (John Pallister); his grandchildren, Elie Smolkin (Olivia), Laura Smolkin, Tyler Smolkin (Sarah), Kaytlin Carlson (Devon Tefft-Meeker), Andrew Carlson (Meghan), Mischa Smolkin (Kyra), Megan Wong (Mathew Mark), Allison Wong and Leanne Wong; his great grandchildren, Kade, Mire and Marlowe; and his brother Alan Smolkin (Betty). He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 26th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Temple B'Nai Tikvah (900 47 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2S1L3). A burial was held on Wednesday, March 26th 2025 at the Beth Tzedec Memorial Park (122 Shalom Way SE, Calgary, AB T2Y3P3).
