Anne Lubbers Obituary
After a full life of 89 years Anne Lubbers peacefully passed away on March 2, 2025. She passed knowing her loving family were always near and her family cherished her kind and strong spirit which exuded love and compassion and an unwavering belief in God.
Anne was born in the Netherlands in 1935 to Jan and Willemina Wevers. The Wevers family has grown large and remains very close to this day. In 1951 the family immigrated to Canada. Anne was young but resilient and started working full time at age 16. She was fluent in English quickly and went on to be a seamstress.
Anne met her husband in church in Canada. John was also a Dutch immigrant. They dated for five years and married in 1956. They moved to Calgary where John was a respected tradesman who later became the owner of Allied Machinists. Together Anne and John supported each other's endeavors. Anne gave freely of her time to many people and organizations including Calgary Christian School and the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured (ARBI). Community service was important to her.
Anne and John embraced the Canadian way of life and became life-long supporters of the Calgary Stampeders and were avid hockey fans. They passed their enthusiasm down to their children. Their family grew to include daughter Miranda (husband Craig) and son Brian with his two cherished children Jackson and Shea. Anne adored children but especially was nourished by the love of her grandchildren.
Anne opened up her home to numerous relatives and others over the years. She welcomed many with open arms and her warm hospitality. They in kind, felt embraced by her kindness and generosity of spirit.
Anne was predeceased by her husband of 62 years when John died in 2017. In addition she was predeceased by her parents Jan and Willemina, as well as sisters, brothers, sisters in-law, brothers in-law, nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday March 15 at EMMANUEL CHRISTIAN REFORMED CHURCH.
Prior to the service the internment will be held at 11 am at Eden Brook Cemetery.
Pastor Martin Mobach will officiate.
