He was predeceased by: his parents, Solomon Roy Simmons and Cora May Simmons (Bodkin); and his brothers, Oather Paul Simmons, Gilbert Simmons, Alvin Clyde Simmons, Vernon Simmons and William Simmons.
He is survived by: his wife Grace Maxine Simmons (Smith). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
