He was predeceased by: his father Elmer James Barnes; his wife Vera "Ditty" Barnes (Carlisle); his children, Richard "Buddy" Moore, Jr. and Dharlene Rushing; and his sister Mary Fuggit.
He is survived by: his children, Charlene "Chickie" Godish (Ed) of Petersburg, Virginia Barnes Kesner of Petersburg, Theresa Saunders (Robert) of Petersburg and Walter J. Barnes (Sarah) of Moorefield, WV; and his brother Elmer James Barnes, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
