He was predeceased by: his parents, William Gordon Hefner and Hattie Mae Crites Hefner; and his siblings, Raymond, Johnnie, Gordon and Shirley Hefner.
He is survived by: his sister Anna Raines; his cousin Charlie Hefner; his great grandchild Maddison Hedrick; his children, Carol "Lucas" Broadwater of Petersburg, WV and Tommie "Crow" Hefner, II (Toni) of Edinburg, VA; his sister Mary Alice Shobe (Landon) of Moorefield, WV; his granddaughters, Brandi "Mouse" Hedrick (TJ), Leanna Brooke Hefner, Teri "Pud" Broadwater and Cassie Hefner; his stepgrandchildren, Jay Adams, Amber Adams and Heather Adams; and his sister-in-law Esther Jean Hefner of Moorefield, WV. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.
