Karen Morey Mitchell Obituary
Karen Morey Mitchell, age 87, passed away on September 27, 2022. She was born in Kirksville, MO on June 14, 1935 to the late Dr. R.J. Morey and Dorthea Morey. She was raised in Parkersburg, WV, and attended West Virginia University, where she met her husband, Bob through the University's Methodist Ministry. Karen held a strong faith and after moving with her family to New Martinsville, WV, she became a member of the New Martinsville United Methodist Church and later Grace United Methodist in North Canton, OH. After earning her Master's degree in education, Karen began her teaching career, working with 6th graders and gifted children. She followed her passions and taught home economics, of which she majored; and German, her minor. Karen loved to learn as much as she loved to teach, and would challenge her mind with good books and Sudoku puzzles. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family, especially her cats. She was a proud season ticket holder for the West Virginia University football team, and would go to every game with her husband and sometimes her son. She will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, Karen is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Robert F. "Bob" Mitchell; children, William Franklin and Mary Louise Mitchell; brothers, Karl Morey, and Ray Morey; and step mother, Betty Morey.
She is survived by her children, Betty Ann (William "Bill") Thomas, Emily Alford, Carol Fier, Charles (Martha) Mitchell; grandchildren, Melissa (Michael) Edelen, Matt Ringler, Robbie (Hilary) Mitchell, Mary Beth (Harrison) Eilers, Dominic Fier; 4 great grandchildren; and sisters, Emily (Jim Reyner) Morey-Holton, and Myrna (Ned Mathews) Browne.
