He was predeceased by: his father Dr. Robert W. Bess. He is survived by: his mother Renna Jane Bess-Shaver (Thayer) of Keyser; his daughter Ashley Russell (Justin) of Cumberland Gap, TN; his grandchildren, Lilah and Barrett Russell; his siblings, Renna Kimble (Bob) of Swanton, MD, Meg Roberts (Tom) of New Martinsville, WV, James Bess (Rhonda), Dr. Charles Bess (Melissa) of New Creek, WV, Allen Bess of Keyser, WV, Tom Shaver and Lawrence Shaver of Keyser; his cousin Bob Ingram; and his buddies, Rick Hill and Karen Lease. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
