He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Gillenwater and Ocie May Spears Gillenwater; his siblings, Arlene Loftis, Delaphine Williams, Ethel Marcilee Gillenwater and Maynard Gillenwater; and his granddaughter Zoey Gillenwater.
He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Byrd Gillenwater; his children, Charlene Sullivan, Melissa Jones, Courtney Shafer (Greg), Nicole Price (Steve), Ronnie Gillenwater (Jenny) and Zac Hudson; his sister Joyce Dunlap Jarrett; his grandchildren, Jamie McCormick, Steven Gillenwater, Sara Sloan, Jeremy Savilla, Devon Gillenwater, Emily Gillenwater, Kylie, Kaylee Jones, Hailey Schoch, Chase Schoch and Braydin Williams; his great grandchildren, Jamarion, Jianna, Jasiah, Ezra, Daniel and Mayley; and his pets, Sissy, Fluffy, Bootsie, Ginger and Petey. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
