He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Michael Coons and Lila Ruth Smith; and his brother Richard A. Coons. He is survived by: his children, Anthony Coons (Michelle) of Charles Town, Tena Johnston (Jerry) of Charles Town and Angie Fadely of Mt. Jackson, Virginia; his grandchildren, Nicole Hosaflook, KJ Shade, Doug Mills, Jr., Samantha Mills, Ashley M. Coons and Wyatt E. Coons; and his siblings, Peggy James (William "Buddy") of Hedgesville and Larry DeMarco, Sr. (Nicole) of Hedgesville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
