He is survived by: his children, Kimberly Mercer and David Mercer, Jr. (Irina); his close friend Shirley Boord; and his siblings, Fred Mercer, Jr. (Doris), Ann Hando and Rebecca Bonfili. He is also survived by five grandchildren.
