After graduating from Wauwatosa High School, Dick started his career in railroading as a fireman shoveling coal on steam locomotives for the Milwaukee Road. Before retiring in 1999, Dick worked as a locomotive engineer running trains between Milwaukee and Chicago for the Milwaukee Road, SooLine, Amtrak, and Metra. Dick was a proud member of the General Mitchell Air Reserve Station 440th Airlift Wing for seven years in addition to serving one year of active duty in the Air Force.
Dick and Donna were married for 64 wonderful years living in Wauwatosa, Brookfield, and finally in New Berlin for the past 7 years. During retirement Dick enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren at their many sporting events and school activities, traveling with friends, golfing, dartball, talking railroading with anyone who would listen, and helping his friends and neighbors at his community. Dick always had a smile on his face, a joyful laugh, a bounce in his step, and a kind word for friends and strangers alike.
