She was predeceased by: her parents, Roland Klug and Arbutus "Boots" Limberg Klug (Pillsbury); her stepfather Earl Pillsbury; her husband Brian Balgie; her brothers, Rolland, Ronald and Mike Klug; her father-in-law Donald Balgie; her siblings-in-law, Sue Pruess and Barry Balgie; and her nephew Noah Horn.

She is survived by: her son Nicholas Biesenthal (Carissa); her granddaughters, Maya Biesenthal and Arianna Reyna; her stepgranddaughter Niamh Leary; her siblings, Roxanne Horn, Yvonne White (Mike), Wally Klug (Peggy) and Scott Klug; her mother-in-law Beverly Balgie; and her siblings-in-law, Mary Jo Winn (Kevin), Christine Visser (Randy), Kathy Vande Kamp (Steve), Carol Neuman, Tom Balgie (Lynn) and Fred Balgie (Nancy). She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

“I'm Julie Marsh, I worked at Christian Homestead with Val & Lisa VanBuren for 4 years.. She was a tough-love mom, hard worker, and great friend. Val was so kind, caring to all our residents- A wonderful co-worker. The time we cared for her aunt Manerva she was so loved and visited often by her sis (Boots). Val will be missed by all her family & friends, the world lost a great gal this week!”
