He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Hoiland and Clara Hoiland (Halverson); and his siblings, Richard, Gordon, Shirley and Cleo Ann.

He is survived by: his son David Jr. David (Veronica "Peach" DeWitt); his wife Peach; his children, Michele Krafjack (Mike), Justin DeWitt (Jennifer) and Dylan Hoiland (Erin); his grandchildren, Kali, Miley, Sophie, Charlie, Addison, Henley and Monroe; his great grandchildren, McKenna and Archer; his siblings, Betty Feurerhelm (Jim) and Wyman Hoiland (Hillary); and his best fur-friend Abby. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
