He was predeceased by: his parents, Aaron Merila and Ayla Merila (Kokkonen); and his son Sean. He is survived by: his wife Edith Merila of Superior, WI; his children, Grace Line of Duluth, MN, Gina Norman (Donald) of Wascott, WI, Debra Frostman (Andrew) of Oulu, WI, Joseph Merila of Oulu, WI, Roberto Laniado of Minneapolis, MN and Michael Piller (Lisa) of Superior, WI; his grandchildren, Jessica Laniado, Kerry Line, Jr. (Kate), Preston Line (Maranda), Derek Pearson (Jennifer), Alex Pearson (Lindsey Statler), Jordan Rhodes (Mercedes), Jesse Frostman (Leena Tuura), Jaime Johnson (Chad), Jospeh Neigebauer, Jennifer Laniado, Robert Laniado, Ryan Laniado (Hanna), Riley Laniado (Justice), Michael Piller and Devin Piller; and his siblings, Loretta Peterson and Gordon Merila (Phyllis). He is also survived by eighteen great-grandchildren.
