He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Dassow and Gladys Dassow (Truttschel); and his brother Richard Dassow. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Mettelmann of Stevens Point; his sons, Peter (Sarah Koelemay) of Stevens Point and David (Katie) of Amherst; his grandchildren, Aaron, Kaleb, Atticyn and Korra; and his sister-in-law JoAnn Dassow (Kolpin) of Sheboygan Falls. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
