He was predeceased by: his siblings-in-law, Bernadine Treinen (Marx), Daniel Ballweg, James Frosch, David Treinen and Joe Kessenich; his nephews, Dennis D. Ballweg, Dale Ballweg, Eddie Kessenich, Kevin Treinen and Gary Treinen; and his close friend Jack Fassbender.
He is survived by: his wife Pauline; his children, Greg (Nicole Haselwander), Tracy (Terry Clements) and Carla (Kevin Gogin); his grandchildren, Sabrina, Carson and Peyton; his stepgrandchildren, Kelly Clements and Erin Clements; his sister Phyllis Frosch; and his sisters-in-law, Darlene Ballweg and Donna Kessenich. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Melvin was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2013 and continued to live at home until the spring of 2017.
