He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick and Catherine; his brother Paul; and his nephew Fred IV. He is survived by: his brother Fred Oertel (Chris); and his nieces and nephews, Kim Kuras (John), Tina Corrigan (Scott), Jeremy Oertel (Natasha), Nathan Oertel and Daniel Oertel. He is also survived by 1 great niece, 6 great nephews, and other relative and friends.

Memorials to Disabled American Veterans, American Heart Association or St. Lucy's Church have been suggested.
