He was predeceased by: his parents, Norm and Caroline; his siblings, Leroy Nelson and Susie Oman; and his nephew Mark Nelson.

He is survived by: his wife Wendy; his children, Michelle Nelson (John Veto), Valerie Brown (Blake) and Kaden Nelson; his grandsons, Jordan Lynn, Oliver Veto and Wheeler Brown; and his siblings, Don Nelson (Annette), Gail Nelson, Glen Nelson (Debbie), Duane Nelson (Gail) and Paulette Jenrette. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
