He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Duerst and Irene Duerst (Santos). He is survived by: his wife Luinda Richards; his daughter Chandra Diring; his grandchildren, Myra and Lee; his siblings, Marcy Natter (Mike), Randy Duerst (Nancy), Bob Duerst (Dawn), Vernon Duerst and Kathy Matthews (Roger); and his brother-in-law Darryl Horton. He is also survived by other relatives, and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
