He was predeceased by: his parents, William Schmit and Viola Schmit (Huiras); and his siblings, Harvey Schmit, Virgina Moulton and Rosemary Schmit.
He is survived by: his wife Joan Viola Ryer; his children, Jeanine Galles (Todd) of Davis, CA, William Schmit (Lori Schommer) of Grafton, WI and Jacqueline Schmit (Marcela Haber Bishop) of Chicago, IL.; and his brother-in-law Donald Ryer of Port Washington. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or St. John XXIII Parish.
