He was predeceased by: his parents, William Thalacker and Ida Thalacker; his wife Grace Johnson; his son Daniel; his foster brother Herbert Trojanowski; and his grandson Aaron Champion.

He is survived by: his children, Lila Waldman (John), Nancy Adler (Robert), Kathie Wingers (Dennis), Lynette Ahrndt (Gary), Rita Stiemsma (Carl), Brian Thalacker (Jeanne) and Cynthia Chapman; and his grandchildren, Jerry Berken (Lisa), Michelle Wiesen (Jim), Shane (Jodi), Adler, Jacob Wingers (Kristina), Noel Wingers, Jeremy Ahrndt (Amanda), Shannon Ahrndt, Ryan Ahrndt, Heidi Dovi (Tony), Kyle Stiemsma (Keli), Corey Stiemsma (Brooke), Dania Champion, Tia Champion, Jonas Champion and Iyanna Champion. He is also survived by 19 great grandchildren.
