He is survived by: his children, Michael Hammer (Wendy), Susan Van Driel (Brian) and Gerhard Hammer (Heidi); his grandchildren, Nathan, Kelsey, Jacob and Emily (Zach); and his great grandchild Addison.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Gerhard Hammer's name to Ascension Hospice.
