He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore Bakken and Bertha Bakken (Simonson); his former wife Harriet; his daughter Kay Christian Smith; and his brother Richard Bakken (Doreen).

He is survived by: his wife Carol Bakken; his children, Brenda Ziegler (Joseph) and Daniel Bakken (Pam); his grandchildren, Benjamin Ziegler (Jennifer), Vince Ziegler, Holly Osterday (Cody), Samuel Bakken, Kaitlyn Christian and Garrett Christian; and his brother Harold Bakken (Barbara) of St. Paul, Minn.. He is also survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
