Robert spent most of his childhood in Malone, WI working on farms and participating in community sports, especially baseball and wrestling. After graduating High School, Robert joined the United States Navy where he faithfully served his country in the Vietnam War. Upon completing his military service, Robert enrolled in technical school for computer programming. After completing his coursework, he was employed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield, where he was responsible for setting up a mainframe computer system. There he spent his time fishing and supporting local community establishments. He was a regular at the Chetek Café, known for its authentic German cuisine and small-town hospitality.
In 2016 Robert's health began to decline and he moved to Germantown, WI to be closer to family. He will be remembered as a loving father to Justin (Alicia) Groeschel and Lindsey (Tim) Ploszaj.
