He was predeceased by: his grandson Joshua Kempf; and his siblings, Donald and Beverly Simonsen. He is survived by: his wife Rose (Gerke); his children, Joanne Gitzlaff (Tim) and Steven Balsewicz (Sherry); his grandchildren, Brian Gitzlaff (Brittney), Paul Gitzlaff, Kyle Balsewicz (Megan) and Sarah Smith (Tracy); his great grandchildren, Mia Pappalardo, Landon, Arianna Gitzlaff, Paige Kempf, Adalynn, Emma, Mariah Balsewicz and Khaleesia Smith; and his siblings, Thomas Balsewicz, Patricia Petz (George), Jacqueline Balsewicz and Maryann Balsewicz. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude's Children's Hospital are appreciated.
