Dennis Ortlieb Obituary
Dennis "Ort" Ortlieb passed away October 27, 2023, at the age of 69. He was the loving father of Derek and Ashley and life companion of Christine Fredrich. Dennis was born on April 16, 1954, to Myrtle and Ernest "Stretch" in Sheboygan, WI. Dennis was the youngest of one sister and three brothers. When Dennis was in elementary school his family moved to Menomonee Falls where Dennis lived, worked, and played for the remainder of his life.
Dennis worked at Silgan Containers Company for 43 years where he worked with multiple members of his family over the years, including his brother Ronald for the majority. In 1982 Dennis married Barbara Hart and started a family; having two children, Derek and Ashley. Dennis introduced Derek to his favorite things: hunting, fishing, and "handyman-stuff.". Dennis and Ashley shared a love of watching sports, including going to an annual "Father-Daughter" Brewers games together. In later years they enjoyed golfing together as well. Almost twenty years ago Dennis reconnected with an old friend, Christine (Chris) Fredrich, and they became life companions with lots of laughing, joking, and bantering. They loved cheering on their favorite teams, spending time with family and friends, and just spending time together and supporting each other through life's ups and downs. Chris was also Dennis's primary caregiver while he battled lung cancer over the last few years. Dennis loved his group of friends and he loved going up north to snowmobile, hunt, and fish. He picked up hunting again a couple of years ago and was able to get his first buck. He always looked forward to the groups' social events like the Coo Carnival, the Fisheree, and the annual Boat Trip. Dennis was incredibly handy and mechanically inclined. For many years he would do all of the maintenance and repairs on the family vehicles. In retirement, he liked working on side jobs with his best friend Lance whether it be carpentry, plumbing, or random house repairs. Dennis was the type of person that if you had water leaking in the basement he would show up at your doorstep to fix it without being asked. Dennis enjoyed life fully almost all the way to the end, spending time with Chris, Derek, and Ashley, and golfing and playing cards every week with his friends and brother Ron. He cracked jokes every minute along the way. He lived at full speed ahead until he was forced to slow down the last few months. He lived on his terms. Dennis will be deeply missed by many. Dennis is survived by his girlfriend and life companion, Christine Fredrich, his son Derek, his daughter Ashley, his brother Ronald, and many nieces and nephews, and dear friends. Other VIP are Calvin (Lindsey), Chelsey (Kurt and Briggs), Catie (Kenny, Rowan, and Caden), Bernice, Jackie, and Steve. We thank the care team and many medical professionals who have cared for Dennis during his battle with cancer.
