He was predeceased by: his father Bob; his wife Mary; and his sister Janet Stilen. He is survived by: his daughters, Gretchen Shimek (Shaun) and Evangeline (Nathaniel Shimek); and his brothers, George Hopfensperger (Cindy) and Michael Hopfensperger. He is also survived by siblings; nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
