He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, William H. Henke and Magdelena "Lee" Henke (Loos); his wife Patricia; his children, Debra Rogers (Kyle) and Mark Preston Henke (Wendy Sheasby); and his grandchildren, Chelsea Schrunk-Crivello (Shannon), Sarah Rogers, Rachel Rogers, Andrew Crivello and Zachary Rogers.

In accordance with his wishes, Bill's body has been donated to Mayo Clinic for the advancement of medical research.
